It all started in 2015 when one of my friends Naomi
decided she is dragging my friends and I went to a meeting
she got in invited to. With all the first year campus excitement, psyche and
curiosity (and our stupid
selves had a 5D’s group name already) who were we not to show up.Haha. The only
thing I remember about my first Rotaract
Meeting is that we got lost trying to find Laico regency Hotel, (We visited the Rotaract Club of Nairobi
Central), and so we basically argued our way there wrongly reading the google map from our phones.
A year later, I got to know of the Rotaract Club of
the University of Nairobi. The Tibim Club!!The youthfulness,
warm reception and of course lit campus vibes got me consistent to the club
activities and meetings.
My experience so far as a Rotaractor has blessed me with so much more than
finding a pass time
activity in school.
My Rotaract experience has been marked with community
service activities, professional growth and most
of all a lot fun and fulfilling friendships. Through
engaging in community service activities, Rotaract has opened my eyes and heart
to everything around
me.My first community service was a tree planting activity along Nairobi River
section on James Gichuru
road.
To start with, it was my first time to use the UoN
School bus, haha. The activity made me realise
most times we neglect that which we should protect. Sunshine rally is of course
a highlight in any Rotaractors’
life, the whole day experience with the kids makes one realise the so many
blessings we overlook.
Most of my fun and awesome moments in Campus have been
with Rotaractors. Most of my closest friends
are Rotaractors, I ideally have a Rotaract family. So there’s definitely a lot
of fun and a sense of belonging
in Rotaract. Through Rotaract, I have met awesome kind souls who have mentored
me in various ways. Quinter, a past
director in my club basically pushed me to show up more, she actually assigned me some little tasks when I
just joined the club and I eventually became consistent and passionate.
Professionally, Rotaract has equipped me with a lot of
people and organizational skills. I have been serving
as an International Service Director for my club since the year 2017/2018.In
the same year, I served
as the secretary for the Green Rotaract Concept. Working with Ignatius in GRC
particularly challenged
me on reliability, consistency and selflessness in service.
I am currently serving as the Country Treasurer and
the experience so far has made me evaluate and better
my financial management skills. To top it all, working with our passionate and
very active Country Chair
SK is a challenges me to be a better and accountable Rotaractor.
Now you know why they say I talk too much. Haha.
Cheers to Rotary and Rotaract world over.
Bless!
