' Why do you need pictures of people eating pizza? ' - Sharon Lusambili

Sharon Lusambili

If you are reading this that means the world has, well, got itself in some kind of trouble.
That is a joke. Damn!
My name is Sharon Lusambili and I am a rotaractor.
This is the part where you all say, “Hi and welcome Sharon.”
Nothing? Okay you guys are no fun.
Fair warning, I’m not the best person you’d want to read a story from.
I am horrible at a lot of things, some of which you probably already know, and dates is one of them. So, some day possibly 2 years ago, George asked me to take pictures of him and his “good friends” eat pizza.
“Why do you need pictures of people eating pizza? Use your phone.”
It is safe to say that I was under the influence of something because I remember saying, ‘No,’ a couple of times but he did not take it as an answer. He said, “It is going to be fun,” and for some strange reason, I believed him. Long story short, I had a good time. I took my first best picture then- a close up shot of Fatma with a party cup between her lips. I returned home with a few chuckles over the evening, still under the influence of a bunch of shots of ‘I don’t know what,’ from who became my very good friends and extended family. I was definitely going back to hang out with nice humans.
One fellowship led to another fellowship and then to a ‘kamatia chini,’ or two and I was PR Director of RAC MMU even before I knew the meaning of induction. I did a terrible job- George wrote all my reports, not that he liked to do it and not that am proud of either but I learned. I took my time to but I got a hang of it, a long time after that.
For some reason I was all over the place. I was finding a way to squeeze my skinny and loud presence everywhere I got a slight chance to. After I finished school, me and my peeps got our madness together and brought forth RAC LANG’ATA. I’m sure you all know how that story goes. Turns out I wanted to be Sergeant-At-Arms but everyone else thought I was conveniently yappy enough to be International Service Director. I am not complaining, so far so much fun and I will be happy to let you all know that I write my own REPORTS now hahaha.
Thanks to Rotary/Rotaract I have been inspired by very nice humans and in the process, I have met countless amazing people and my list is not full yet. I have gone to very beautiful places and my feet are not tired yet.
Honestly this would be much easier if I was speaking rather than writing. Caleb has made me write this again because he thinks it was too short a story to read from me and that you awesome Rotaractors love to read so much. So I’m sitting here thinking what it is I would tell you so that Caleb won't ask me to write it again and again.

Pretty little secret; My personal life-
I was born a Roman Catholic, and I know what you are thinking right now, Don't even! haha
I am the last born to a family of 5 nicely complicated humans.
I went to school, a village academy haha. Only one year in nursery school, can't relate to baby class and pre-unit stories. I went to a saint school for high school and survived and also finished university despite what most of you might think hahaha.
I was the to go to child in my family for lyrics to songs. I wonder what I used to tell them as lyrics to Congolese songs but I did. Sorry siblings wherever you are I lied alot. haha
Bottom line to this secret is that I was troublesome growing up and I was not so certain I would get a real sense of direction but thanks to Rotary I am a super cool person right now. You all better nod to this point as you read.
Rotary has been a lot of things to me. Some that I cannot think out loud on this WordPad but I will gladly let you know that I am here to stay.
This had better been inspirational haha.
"Why doesn't WordPads have emojis though?" Thinking out very loudly.
Highlight is I know I’m the best thing that has ever happened to Fatma Muhaji, don’t let her lie to you haha.
Slide into my DM if you want me to make this story personal. “Catch a wink everyone.”
Cheers to more Service, Personal and Professional growth, friendship, fun as we spread the inspirational light and Rotary/Rotaract the world over.
