'Besides there were many ladies in attendance,' Talib Taib

Talib Taib
President of Rotaract Club of Africa Nazarene University

The year was early 2017, between January and March, I over heard my friends talking about this new club that required people to contribute 20 shillings for attendance, I decided to ask them what this club was all about and the reason as to why they have to contribute money for a meeting. This got me interested and curious. I remember being told about the meeting place but I took time before I  made my way to Helstrom Room 4A.

Weeks past by and I recall our clubs charter president, Sam Amwai walking by my friend Allan and me with a registration form on his hand, he was heading to his hostel room, we followed him and we made sure we wrote our names on that form, little did I know that including my name on that list would result in a journey full of adventures and experiences.

Soon after, I attended my first fellowship and I was still not understanding what the club entailed, the only thing I recall about that particular meeting was the presidents chain that our charter president wore, little did I know that I would be in his position a few years later. I consistently attended the fellowships even though it took me a long time to be officially inducted to be a member, precisely about 6 months, however that did not deter me or discourage me from attending the fellowships, besides there were many ladies in attendance, that was a huge motivation for me as well, besides that I wanted to understand more about the course of Rotaract and Rotary in general, previously the only knowledge I had about Rotary was a sign board I used to see along the road somewhere around maasai lodge stage nothing more.

Several months passed by, I was allocated to a committee,I had no idea of what this committees entailed., I served in the community service committee, it was during this period that many things came to perspective one of which was Rotaracts involvement in community service and outreach programs, our club was organizing visits  to childrens home, this particular aspect impressed me and ensured my certainty on what I had got myself into. Responsibility was now becoming more and more, I was surprised one afternoon when I was told that I had been appointed as a community service director in my absence, and I recall a friend of mine telling me I was appointed to that docket because "I was light skin" haha.

Rotaract came with great events , starting with the sunshine rally which is a really great event that brings children with special needs together, spending time with the children is amazing and fun! , RYLA, which is usually filled with lots of fun and food.! , DCA, I cannot wait for this one. Attending all this events has brought great experiences with timeless memories.

"Time was moving quite fast these days" , I thought to myself one afternoon as I was waiting for the next fellowship of the week, my close friends were always complaining that I'm giving  more time to Rotaract and they don't see any reason why I was attending this fellowships.
Only time would reveal it all..

Then came the presidency, which I was not bound to take until a year after  the initial person however my time came earlier than expected and I was forced to take lead of my Club. It was with great honor that I took this responsibility and it required me to learn most things along the way, their was no time to wait.
I can confidently affirm that being a Rotaract president has been one of my key highlights in Rotaract and in life.

Rotaract has given me a reason to look forward to every week, it has build my confidence and my Outlook on life in general (the four way test).
Rotaract has taken me places(I went to United Nations office in Gigiri, I don't see how else I would have gone there if it were not for Rotaract!).
Rotaract has provided me with a family and a network of amazing people..
