I joined
Rotaract in 2012. The driving force was basic – a repeated request from a good
friend of mine. My intentions for my very first appearance in a meeting was
clear – to see how it is different from the meetings I’m used to. It was a
discussion on an upcoming fundraising event – A salsa night. I saw how couple
of members were engaged in that event alone. After I went to the fellowship, I
felt that I found a very good place to meet fun friends. The club was Rotaract
Club of Keroggie in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Shortly after my
induction to the club, I was elected as the Public relations director. At the
end my year of service, I assessed myself on where it got me. Then I moved to
the vice presidency level. Here I was able to contribute much for the success
of my club. With it, I was able to carve ways of smart leadership with my
president.
One of the most
memorable volunteer activities I was part of is the Polio Vaccination in the
cities of Dire Dawa and Shinele in the Eastern part of the country. Yes, it was
nice…meeting matured Rotarians from the US & Canada and eventually getting
awesome pins; but the best thing was seeing the crying faces of the children
and the relieved feelings of their mothers. Thanks to the massive work of
Rotary, Polio is close to full eradication from the world.
During my
presidency in Keroggie, I led my directors team worked in helping disadvantaged
students, supporting poor elders, conserving the environment and strengthening
our ties internationally. I am indebted for the place I have in the hearts of
my members.
Going forward, with
the gentle push from the then DRR Abenezer Feleke, in 2016/17, I got into the
DRR’s team as the District Project Officer. I took the time to know more about
the beautiful countries in the district and its vibrant members. That pushed my
interest to serve the greater community. I got elected as the DRR on the same
year. I am currently serving as the DRR of District 9212 which is rich with 78
Rotaract clubs.
In 2018, I got
inducted to the mother Rotary club of Keroggie, RC Addis Ababa, the oldest club
in the country. Here I am exposed to larger scale of projects, great networks
and valuable insights. I am elected as the Secretary for the coming Rotary
year.
I am
exhilarated, uplifted, well-motivated and destined-for-more in Rotary. As a
volunteer, I learnt service and as a leader, I got to inspire many.
Forever a
Rotarian!!
Cheers to Rotary and Rotaract world over.
Bless!
